Diagnoses and management options tested

Across the fifty cases you are asked to choose between options such as: Passive protection, Any child over nine years of age, He responded once and the protection has since waned, Everything due may be given today as scheduled, Tell him the ingredient lists are not accurate, Do not give it beforehand; treat fever if it occurs, It keeps the antigen stable during freezing, Give only the vaccines due at their current ages, Support it only if exclusion from school is enforced, Withhold it until discharge, Complete the course; this does not contraindicate it, Complete every remaining dose exactly as scheduled, Next week, The course was given incorrectly.

Clinical pearls from this deck

  • Given antibody is borrowed, not learned. No booster, no schedule slot, and it fades before the next winter.
  • Protect the baby through the mother when his own response would arrive too late. The window in pregnancy is the whole trick.
  • A partial vaccine explained as a complete one costs lives. Say the net stays, in the same breath as the offer.
  • Here the question is not who is at risk, but what the immune system has already met. Test before you offer.
  • Read the coverage before you blame the programme. High coverage with new serotypes is replacement, not failure.
  • The child is in front of you and the fridge is down the corridor. That is the whole argument.

Work through the deck once for recognition, then again a week later to test yourself — each question gives the answer and explains why every other option fails.
