What this deck covers

What this deck teaches
- Two weeks of cough plus paroxysms. Fever is usually absent and the chest is clear between bouts – neither argues against it.
- Vaccinated children still get it. Immunity wanes; adolescents and adults are the usual source.
- Antibiotics change transmission, not the cough. Only treatment in the first week shortens it. Say so on day one.
- Looking well between bouts is the rule. Judge the infant on what happens during a paroxysm, not between them.
- Almost all the danger is under three months. Apnoea may be the only feature, with no whoop at all.
- The film is perihilar and shaggy, not lobar. New fever means reassess for secondary pneumonia.
Exam pearls from this deck
- Two weeks of cough plus paroxysms, whoop or post-tussive vomiting. Fever and a clear chest do not argue against it.
- These are pressure signs, not infection signs. They mark how violent the cough has been.
